Hommages – Anthony Joseph Lanman and Holly Roadfeldt
The click of a metronome, haunting melodies, a wild flourish transcribed from a famous virtuoso guitarist, and seemingly random pitches repeated through a looper pedal on which other colors emerge. These are the expressions of vulnerability through sound heard in Anthony Joseph Lanman's HOMMAGES. Pianist Holly Roadfeldt transports us to Eddie Van Halen's arena, behind Hayao Miyazaki's camera lens, within the frenetic energy of Frank Zappa, to Hildegard von Bingen's visions, above the monumental canvas of Jackson Pollock, and so on. Through Roadfeldt's poetic interpretations of Lanman's compelling vignettes, we recognize these piano miniatures are more than a sonic journey but provide us with the artistic inspiration and human connection we so often desire.
